Vexillum Legionis

What is the Legion of Mary?

The Legion of Mary was founded September 7, 1921 in Dublin, Ireland by the Servant of God, Frank Duff.  It is a lay apostolic organization at the service of the Church and under the direction of its pastors.  The two-fold purpose of the Legion is the sanctification of its members and advancing the reign of Jesus Christ through Our Lady.

What do members do?

Members gather weekly for prayer and to report on works accomplished during the previous week.  Works typically consist of door-to-door evangelization, visiting the homes of the parish, bringing Holy Communion to the homebound, visiting the sick in nursing homes, and teaching RCIA and CCD.  Legionaries will eagerly take up any of the spiritual works of mercy.

Who can join?

Any faithful Catholic is welcome to join a praesidium.
